Workshops
Following is a list of workshops currently being taught by Magidah. All workshops include complete warm-up and cool-down as well as postural and alignment advice. Technique Based Workshops:
- Elements of Belly Dance Style:
- Discover the syntax of musical phrasing through traveling steps, turns and transitions. Learn to use your stage more effectively and how to provide a beautiful background for highlighting pops, drops and accents.
- Lavish Layers:
- How to add depth and texture to your dancing while maintaining control and ease of movement. Layer shimmies, arms and traveling steps to make basic steps come alive.
- Down on the Doum - Your Roadmap to Arabic Rhythms:
- Learn how to identify, interpret and express Middle Eastern rhythms with your body. Explore different rhythms and gain the confidence to dance with live musicians or approach music you already have with a new ear. How to embody the music and enrich your taqsims, drum solos, and everything in between.
Drum Solo Workshops:
- Get Magidah-fied!
- Learn one of Magidah's signature drum solos, filled with fun, sassy movements built on a foundation of solid technique and expert rhythmic interpretation.
- Don't Look So Surprised!
- How to hear, process and figure out which movements are best suited to the riff you just heard. An insider’s guide to dancing to a live drum solo.
Combinations for Fun and Profit:
- Metered Melodies:
- Learn rhythm-specific combinations to use as spot choreography you can drop into your improvisational dancing. Based on 3-4 of the most commonly heard Arabic rhythms.
- Jazz it Up!
- Fun and funky combinations designed especially with Arabic Pop music in mind. Blending Magidah’s extensive training in Western dance forms and her expert ear for Arabic music, these combos bring you the best of both worlds.
- Elements of Belly Dance Style:
- Discover the syntax of musical phrasing through traveling steps, turns and transitions. Combinations designed to show how to punctuate a musical phrase.
Mesmerizing and Magical:
- Hypnotize Your Audience:
- Utilizing slow movements, arms and undulations, Magidah shows you how to create beautifully powerful taqsims.
- Don’t Let Your Veil Dance You!
- Move beyond the veil as Prop. Learn how to truly express yourself and the music while identifying and avoiding common veil mishaps. Silk veils recommended.
Events
Magidah is available to perform at weddings, festivals and corporate events within the greater Portland, OR metro area. Please note that she does not appear at functions such as bachelor parties. Rates start at $175 for a standard Egyptian set. Rates may vary depending on travel requirements. See below for more details
Rate Schedule:
Before contacting Magidah to book an appearance at your event, please ensure that the location meets the following criteria:
- A clean, private dressing area with a mirror and lock must be provided onsite.
- In the interest of safety and to ensure a quality performance, a 10' x 10' level floor is required. Please be prepared to tell Magidah what the material of the floor is (tile, hardwood, linoleum, Pergo, etc.)
- Be prepared to provide information regarding what type of event you are planning and the cultural background of the people attending.
- Please provide an accurate arrival and performance time**, keeping in mind that Magidah will need 30 minutes before her performance to warm up and prepare.
- In order to maintain the quality of Magidah's performance and to guarantee the best results for her audience, she asks that all private events be held in a location with a professional sound system (or quality stereo if in a home). A 'boom box' will not suffice and will in fact detract from the quality of the performance and of the audience's experience.

Magidah would be delighted to help you with your next show, providing custom choreographies. Rates begin at $100/minute of completed choreography. Please contact her for more information.
**Please note that overages in performance time will be charged at a rate of .5 hrs per 15 minutes of overtime.
